Exciting times…Exciting times…

June 24 2010

Hello!

I hope everyone’s enjoying the sunshine? Unfortunately it has turned our practise room into a sauna, but luckily we won’t be in there for a few weeks!

We’re heading down to London on Monday for the week to record our first single ‘Higher’ which will be release mid-October. Producing the single will be the highly-esteemed Robert Harder. Having worked with the likes of Brian Eno, David Byrne, Babyshambles, Language and The Slits, we’re pretty excited to see what’ll come out at the end.

We’ll be going straight from the studio to Wakestock and enjoying a sunny (hopefully) weekend and celebrating my (Polly) 19th birthday when the clock strikes midnight on the Sunday after we’ve played!

Our tour kicks off in September and will finish mid-October when the single will be released. Will let you know when and where we shall be playing later on in the summer!

…we’re currently in the middle of working on some new material as well as shaping up some old dusty songs which have been kept under the bed over the past year or so.

Our next gig is at MOJO in Liverpool on the first of July before heading to Abersoch for the weekend to play at Wakestock Festival. We’ll be on the mainstage of the Sunday evening before Los Campesinos, Band Of Skulls, Futureheads and Ting Tings. There’s still a few tickets left and the line-up is pretty cool: www.wakestock.co.uk

More news on single recording/release aswell as Autumn tour details coming soon!

SXSW 2010 DiarySXSW 2010 Diary

March 31 2010

Here’s a diary we kept whilst out in the madness…

17 March – SXSW Music officially kicked off today, we’ve already been here a couple of days; had a warm up gig at Mi Casa on Monday and checked that all the equipment (and Paul’s broken hand) were in working order. We loaded into the Four Seasons where we would be officially opening the Music Festival with a little acoustic set (last band to do this were Flight Of The Concords!). Here’s a picture of me, Tom and Paul playing to 200+ industry whilst they eat their 3-course meal.

Also, here’s a picture of Valley meeting Bill Murray who he accosted in the hotel lobby. If you know Valley, you’ll have definitely heard about this.

We then dashed to the Alehouse where we were playing our showcase at 1am. We caught the back-end of Nathaniel Ratecliff’s set, which was amazing. The stage was set into a little cave/alcove with church windows behind it and the drums were up on a plinth so it was really cool to have a different backline layout for once!

18th March – Today we played at the Welsh Party which was being held at the British Music Embassy (Latitude 30). I think we were most excited about this gig as the venue has the reputation for the best PA, desk, engineers etc at SXSW. Also it has great bands playing everyday of the festival (The Drums, Chapman Family, Cate Le Bon, Smoke Fairies…). We had an interview with Bethan Elfyn of Radio 1 who was hosting the party, you can see a video interview on her blog pages on the Radio 1 website.

Tom and me then dashed off to the French Legation Museum to see Dum Dum girls and the XX, it was a big outdoor party with a little tent and they played just as the sun was going down. We then headed off to the outdoor New Zealand party, then off to see our friends Angry Vs The Bear at Aussie’s.

19th March – Unfortunately Hassall had to go to hospital after the Welsh Party gig as he’d been bitten on his leg quite badly and couldn’t walk, he was up to the eyeballs on antibiotics. So we had a pretty laid-back day today, we had an acoustic gig at the Sheraton Hotel which was fun; the Bowling For Soup bassist was watching according to Paul! We also went to the Barbados Party for some amazing food. Then a few of us headed back to Latitude 30 to catch The Drums and Everything Everything. We had a nice chat with The Drums’ singer Johnathon afterwards; he gave us some words of wisdom.

20th March – Had another lazy day today, went for a swim and did a bit of second-hand shopping on Congress, then headed to the Radisson for another acoustic gig. We stayed a bit longer to watch the blues band Kill It Kid do their set; how something that brilliantly bluesy can come out of Bath I’ll never know. A few of us went and saw our friends Angry Vs The Bear play at Rusty Spurs, then we dragged a slightly intoxicated Paul to a tattoo parlour called Sailor’s Grave to get the outline of Texas tattooed on his leg. We then headed back to Latitude 30 to see the end of the Moshi Moshi party where we watched Slow Club and had another nice chat with The Drums.

21st March – The Sunday is pretty much a comedown for 6th Street, the roads are open again and the crowds from the previous night are all in bed. We, however, we played our last gig on 6th Street at Sunday Bloody Sunday. We went on after a Japanese/New Zealand jazz-flute-death-metal band, which were pretty impressive.

The turn out was great considering it was still mid-afternoon. We then held an impromptu open-mic party back at the hotel bar that night and said goodbye to all the staff and people who had been helping us over the week.

You can find a load more photos of our trip over in the media section, there’s also a video of our arrival…we’re making a short film of the whole trip as we speak!

In other news…we’ll be announcing some more festival dates soon so keep an eye on our gig listings!

SXSW UpdateSXSW Update

March 20 2010

Hi everyone… we had hoped to be putting up a daily SXSW blog with loads of pics and vids but the wifi is so weak it takes ages to upload any sizeable content… and with our schedule over the last few days it’s just been impossible.

We have a reasonably restful day today with just one acoustic gig so here’s what we’ve been up to…. We blew the cobwebs away on Monday with an acoustic set in the afternoon and then a full band gig in the evening at Mi Casa on 6th Street. It was great to see loads of people again who we met last year.

Wednesday was pretty surreal… we played an acoustic set at the Delegate Welcome Dinner to over 200 industry types… ballroom, chandeliers… almost cabaret. From that we went to play our festival showcase on 6th Street which is mental at the best of times… on St. Patrick’s night it’s just a complete nuthouse!… from the sublime to the ridiculous within 4 hours.

Thursday we played at the Welsh Party at the British Music Embassy at Latitude 30… which must have one of the best sound systems at SXSW. We’ve managed to get to see some of our favourite bands ourselves this year… The XX, The Drums, Everything Everything… though we couldn’t manage to get into Muse’s gig last night… thousands of people queuing to get into a 2,500 capacity venue!

That’s all for now… we’ll hopefully get some pics up later today….

SXSW Part 1SXSW Part 1

March 14 2010

Hello everyone.

We’re here in Texas, sunning it by the pool. We had a stressful journey on Friday/Saturday but arrived safely to a great welcome at the Wyndham Hotel from Lauren, Pam, Van and Cary.

Just been checking out the venues and local area (shopping) over the last couple of days. Valley calls it Boozing, Snoozing and Jacuzzing – yes there’s a jacuzzi :)

Our first gig is tomorrow at Mi Casa, we’re onstage at 11pm. Looking forward to going to see loads of other ace bands that are playing like The XX, The Drums, Chapman Family, Band Of Horses etc. over the week.

We’ll be uploading some videos too! But for now here’s some pictures…

BBC Radio Merseyside Acoustic SessionBBC Radio Merseyside Acoustic Session

February 23 2010

We recently did an interview for Liverpool’s BBC Radio Merseyside which included an acousic performance of a couple of tracks from the new E.P.

We’ve just put up some video footage on our Media Page from the session which features a cut down version of the Pleasure Principle and me playing a cut down version of Silent Film

Back in the studio…Back in the studio…

February 15 2010
The last seven days have been a blur… after spending most of Monday in the US Embassy in London going through the visa mill for SXSW, we then headed across town to Soho for our HMV Next Big Thing gig at The Borderline (see photos in our Live Gallery on the Media Page). The gig was a sellout and it was great to share the stage with The Plasticines….

We were back in London (ish) on Thursday night when we supported Eliza Doolittle at Buckinghamshire Students Uni. Got back after 3am for the second time in a few days… only this time we had to be in the studio in Liverpool for 9am next morning to record some new tracks. You can see just how knackered we were on the video we’ve just put up on our Media Page!
Whilst all this has been going on we’ve been offered two more SXSW official showcase gigs.. so it looks like we’re in for a busy 10 days in Austin.
